The Sindh government has extended the Petrol Subsidy for motorcycle owners to provide continued relief. The announcement was made by Murad Ali Shah during a cabinet meeting.
According to officials, the Petrol Subsidy of Rs100 per litre will now continue until May 31, 2026. The decision aims to support motorcyclists facing rising fuel costs across the province.
The extension was approved during a key meeting held at the Chief Minister’s House. Several economic matters were discussed during the session. The chief minister directed authorities to release Rs2 billion for the subsidy in May.
Currently, more than 548,000 people are benefiting from the programme. Officials confirmed that Rs1.096 billion has already been distributed among eligible citizens. The scheme mainly targets daily commuters who rely on motorcycles.
The Petrol Subsidy programme is seen as a relief measure for low- and middle-income groups. Many households depend on motorcycles for work and daily travel. Rising petrol prices have increased financial pressure on these groups.
Earlier, the government announced an increase in petroleum prices. The Petroleum Division issued an official notification regarding the new rates. Petrol prices were increased by Rs6.51 per litre. This brought the new price to Rs399.86 per litre.
High-speed diesel also saw a sharp increase. Its price was raised by Rs19.39 per litre, reaching Rs399.58 per litre. These increases have impacted transportation and daily expenses.
At the same time, some adjustments were made in levies. The petrol levy was reduced by Rs3.88 per litre. However, a new levy of Rs28.69 per litre was imposed on diesel.
Officials say the subsidy extension will help reduce the burden on citizens. It is expected to support those most affected by fuel price hikes. The government may review the programme again based on economic conditions.
