GWADAR: The cost of Iranian fuel in Balochistan has increased sharply, creating fresh pressure on local consumers. The latest change has pushed up overall petrol prices in border and coastal areas.
According to local fuel traders, Iranian petrol is now being sold between Rs200 and Rs210 per litre. Earlier, it was available at Rs170 to Rs180 per litre. This increase has been reported mainly in Gwadar and nearby regions.
Traders said the rise in petrol prices is linked to the closure of business activity in Kuntani Hor. This area is considered an important route for cross-border fuel supply and trade.
The disruption in supply has reduced availability and increased demand. As a result, petrol prices have gone up quickly in the local market. Traders believe the situation may remain unstable if border activity does not resume.
Residents in Gwadar have expressed concern over the latest hike. They said higher petrol prices will directly affect transport costs. This will also increase daily expenses for ordinary families.
People in the area already face inflation and economic pressure. The latest rise in fuel costs is expected to worsen living conditions further. Many fear that transport fares and goods prices may also increase soon.
Meanwhile, legal action has been taken over fuel pricing issues in the country. A petition has been filed in the Lahore High Court challenging the recent increase in petrol prices by the federal government.
The petitioner argued that the increase is not based on a transparent pricing system. It was also claimed that the decision lacks proper legal justification and affects public rights.
Concerns were also raised over the Petroleum Development Levy. The petition states that only parliament has the authority to approve such changes, not the federal government alone.
The petitioner added that rising petrol prices are impacting key sectors of the economy. These include transport, agriculture, food supply, and electricity costs.
