Pakistan Fined for Slow Over-Rate During Dhaka Test Match

Pakistan’s difficult performance in the first Test against Bangladesh became more disappointing after the International Cricket Council (ICC) penalised the national side for maintaining a slow over-rate during the match in Dhaka.

The Pakistan cricket team was Fined 40 per cent of its match fee and also lost eight points in the ICC World Test Championship standings following the defeat.

According to the ICC, Pakistan was found eight overs short of the required target after all time allowances were considered during the Test match against Bangladesh.

The ICC confirmed the sanctions shortly after Bangladesh defeated Pakistan by 104 runs in the opening Test in Dhaka. The result added further pressure on the visiting side, which had already faced criticism for its overall performance in the match.

Pakistan captain Shan Masood accepted responsibility for the slow over-rate offence. Officials stated that the skipper admitted the mistake and agreed to the penalties imposed by the ICC.

As the offence was accepted by the captain, there was no need for a formal hearing. The ICC said the matter was resolved after the Pakistan team agreed to the sanctions.

Under ICC rules, teams are Fined five per cent of their match fee for every over short of the target after allowances are taken into account. Since Pakistan was eight overs behind, the team received a total fine of 40 per cent.

In addition to the financial penalty, Pakistan also suffered a major setback in the World Test Championship standings. The deduction of eight points could affect the team’s position later in the competition.

Cricket analysts believe slow over-rate penalties have become an important issue in international cricket. The ICC has increased its focus on maintaining match discipline and ensuring that teams complete overs within the allocated time.

The Pakistan side has previously faced criticism regarding slow over-rates in international matches. Experts say teams must improve field efficiency and reduce unnecessary delays during play.

Fans also reacted strongly to the latest development on social media. Many supporters expressed disappointment over both the defeat and the ICC penalty.

The Bangladesh team, meanwhile, celebrated an impressive 104-run victory in Dhaka. Their strong bowling and disciplined performance helped secure an important win in the series opener.

Pakistan will now look to recover in the upcoming matches while avoiding further disciplinary action. Team management is expected to review on-field strategies to prevent similar penalties in future games.
