The Senate of Pakistan was informed on Friday that Work on the Sukkur-Hyderabad motorway will begin within this year. The government confirmed that planning and approvals are moving forward.
The Minister for Communications, Abdul Aleem Khan, briefed the House during question hour. He said that three out of five sections of the motorway have already been approved. He also added that the tendering process has started for different parts of the project.
Officials stated that Work on the project is being fast-tracked to improve national road connectivity. The Sukkur-Hyderabad motorway is expected to strengthen transport links between major cities in Sindh.
The minister further explained that efforts are underway to increase revenue for the National Highway Authority. This step is aimed at improving the overall condition of road infrastructure across the country. Authorities believe better funding will support long-term maintenance and development.
During the session, Work on related development planning was also discussed in the broader context of infrastructure improvement. The government emphasized its focus on completing major transport projects efficiently.
In a written reply, Minister for Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development Chaudhry Salik Hussain shared updates on job creation measures. He said the government is working to expand employment opportunities for Pakistanis abroad.
He mentioned that labour mobility is being increased through bilateral agreements. An MOU with Italy provides an annual quota of around 3,500 workers for three years. These opportunities cover sectors such as agriculture, construction, healthcare, hospitality, logistics, and ICT.
The minister added that a high-level committee has been formed to manage workforce engagement and quota distribution. This is part of wider efforts to improve overseas employment systems.
Meanwhile, in the Senate, opposition concerns were addressed by Advisor on Political Affairs Rana Sana Ullah Khan. He stated that the PTI founder and his spouse are receiving proper medical care. However, he added that jail rules were violated during meetings for political purposes.
The Upper House also passed two important bills. These included the Pakistan Nursing and Midwifery Council Bill 2026 and the Special Economic Zones Amendment Bill 2026.
The Senate will meet again on Monday at 5 pm. Officials confirmed that Work on key national development projects, including the motorway, remains a priority for the government.
