Tensions between Pakistan and India have once again increased after controversial remarks by Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi triggered a strong response from the Pakistan Army.
The Indian military chief reportedly said Pakistan must choose whether it wants to remain part of “geography or history” while discussing terrorism-related allegations during an event in New Delhi.
The Pakistan Army strongly rejected the statement and described it as provocative and dangerous for regional peace.
In an official statement issued on Sunday, the military’s media wing ISPR said Pakistan is a sovereign and internationally recognized state with strategic importance in South Asia.
The Pakistan Army stated that such remarks reflect an inability among certain sections of Indian leadership to accept Pakistan’s existence even after nearly eight decades.
ISPR said statements threatening a nuclear-armed country are irresponsible and could increase instability in an already sensitive region.
The military also warned that rhetoric suggesting the elimination of another country is not strategic thinking. According to the statement, such language reflects poor judgment and a dangerous mindset.
The Pakistan Army emphasized that responsible nuclear states should demonstrate maturity, restraint, and balanced decision-making instead of using inflammatory language.
ISPR further stated that South Asia cannot afford another military crisis between two nuclear powers. It warned that any future conflict could have consequences beyond the region.
The statement also urged Indian leadership to adopt peaceful coexistence and avoid pushing the region toward further tensions.
The Pakistan Army accused India of ignoring its own alleged role in regional instability. ISPR referred to claims regarding disinformation campaigns, cross-border activities, and accusations of supporting unrest in the region.
Officials also linked India’s recent aggressive posture to frustration over past military developments and regional dynamics between the two countries.
General Dwivedi made the remarks during an interactive session in New Delhi while answering questions about possible future military scenarios involving Pakistan.
His comments quickly sparked criticism in Pakistan and led to a sharp diplomatic and military reaction from Islamabad.
The latest exchange comes after last year’s military escalation between the two neighboring countries. Both Pakistan and India continue to present different narratives regarding those events.
Security analysts believe rising rhetoric on both sides could further increase tensions in South Asia if diplomatic channels remain inactive.
International observers have repeatedly warned that any direct confrontation between Pakistan and India carries serious risks because both countries possess nuclear weapons.
The Pakistan Army has maintained that any future aggression or military action against Pakistan would receive a strong response.
