Punjab CM Stresses Human-Centered Urban Development in Cities

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has emphasized that cities should focus on people, not just infrastructure. Speaking at the World Urban Forum in Azerbaijan, she said modern cities must support human development and improve the quality of life for citizens.

Addressing international delegates at the forum, Maryam Nawaz shared a message of goodwill from the people and leadership of Pakistan. She also thanked the Azerbaijani government for its warm welcome and hospitality during her visit.

The chief minister praised the strong ties between Pakistan and Azerbaijan. She paid tribute to Azerbaijan’s founding leader, Heydar Aliyev, and described him as a sincere friend of Pakistan. She also appreciated the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev and acknowledged Azerbaijan’s rapid progress in recent years.

Maryam Nawaz said that Urban Development should not be limited to roads, buildings, and transport systems. According to her, development plans must improve social conditions, create economic opportunities, and support better living standards for people.

She explained that Punjab is moving forward with a people-focused strategy. The provincial government is working on several projects to improve governance and public services across the province.

The chief minister highlighted the Punjab Economic Registry Survey as an important initiative. She said the survey will help authorities collect social and economic data for better planning and decision-making.

She also spoke about the “Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar” housing scheme. Maryam Nawaz called it a major step toward providing affordable housing facilities to citizens in Punjab.

Discussing rural areas, she said nearly 2,000 villages are being upgraded with modern facilities. She stressed that rural development is necessary for balanced growth and equal access to services.

Maryam Nawaz added that road networks and public infrastructure are also being improved to strengthen connectivity and economic activity. She said Punjab is paying special attention to climate challenges while planning future projects.

The chief minister stated that sustainable Urban Development is essential for long-term progress. She emphasized that future planning must protect the environment while meeting the needs of growing populations.
