Pakistan Launches First AI-Based Parliamentary System in National Assembly

Pakistan is set to launch its first AI-Based Parliamentary System in the National Assembly today, marking a significant step toward digital transformation in the country’s legislative system.

The inauguration ceremony will be attended by Speaker of the National Assembly and Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja. The project has been developed jointly by the Ministry of IT and Telecommunication and the National Information Technology Board (NITB).

Officials said the new AI-Based Parliamentary System aims to modernize parliamentary operations by making legislative work faster, smarter, and more efficient. The initiative is also being described as an important development in building a secure and sovereign artificial intelligence infrastructure for Pakistan’s parliament.

According to authorities, the system includes several advanced digital tools designed to improve parliamentary processes. These features include bill summarization, smart document search, drafting assistance for parliamentary questions, speech support tools, and intelligent meeting management functions.

The newly introduced system also contains an AI-powered chatbot that can assist parliamentary staff and lawmakers during legislative work. In addition, the platform can automatically retrieve legal clauses, constitutional articles, laws, and references within seconds.

Officials explained that the AI-Based Parliamentary System will help parliamentary officers review lengthy bills more quickly. Instead of manually studying large documents, officials will now receive AI-generated summaries in both Urdu and English.

The system can also convert lengthy parliamentary documents into short and organized formats, helping lawmakers save time during discussions and decision-making processes.

Authorities believe the smart meeting management feature will further improve coordination and efficiency during parliamentary sessions and committee meetings.

Government officials said the initiative reflects Pakistan’s growing focus on digital governance and modern technology solutions. They added that the use of artificial intelligence in parliament can help improve transparency, speed, and overall effectiveness in the lawmaking process.

The project is also expected to reduce delays in handling legislative documents and simplify access to important legal information for lawmakers and parliamentary staff.

Technology experts see the launch as a major milestone for Pakistan’s digital future. The introduction of the AI-Based Parliamentary System places Pakistan among countries using advanced AI tools to support governance and parliamentary operations.
