BISP Payments May Rise To Rs20,000 As IMF Calls For Higher Cash Support

BISP Payments May Rise To Rs20,000 As IMF Calls For Higher Cash Support

Relief may be coming for low-income families as discussions continue over welfare reforms in Pakistan. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has reportedly proposed an increase in social assistance support.

According to details, the IMF has suggested raising BISP Payments under the Benazir Income Support Programme. The current quarterly Kafalat stipend of Rs14,500 may be increased to Rs20,000. This would reflect a rise of Rs5,500 per beneficiary.

The proposal regarding BISP Payments is currently under active review during ongoing negotiations between IMF officials and Pakistani authorities. Talks are focused on improving social protection and financial support systems.

Officials have provided detailed briefings to the IMF mission. These include data on registered beneficiaries, household enrollment processes, and payment distribution systems. Future funding requirements have also been shared for the upcoming fiscal year.

The IMF is also reviewing Pakistan’s broader welfare structure. Key areas include transparency, efficiency, and long-term financial sustainability of the programme.

During the meetings, BISP Payments were discussed as part of a wider effort to strengthen social protection. Officials indicated that future increases in cash assistance may also be considered depending on fiscal conditions.

The IMF mission is holding multiple sessions as part of its review process. One meeting is specifically focused on BISP, while others involve discussions with the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).

These talks are part of a broader economic assessment aimed at improving revenue collection and reducing fiscal pressure. The IMF has also recommended ending various sales tax exemptions to strengthen the tax system.

The proposed changes could have a significant impact on Pakistan’s financial planning. Any revision in BISP Payments would directly affect millions of vulnerable families relying on government assistance.

Authorities say the final outcome will depend on ongoing negotiations. However, the discussions highlight growing attention toward expanding social safety nets.

If approved, the increase in BISP Payments would provide meaningful relief to struggling households amid rising inflation. The decision is expected to be finalized after further consultations between both sides.
