The federal government has announced another reduction in fuel prices ahead of Eid, offering relief to consumers across Pakistan. According to an official statement issued by the Petroleum Division, both petrol and high-speed diesel prices have been cut by Rs. 6 per litre for the coming week.
Under the revised rates, Petrol will now be sold at Rs. 403.78 per litre. Meanwhile, high-speed diesel has been fixed at Rs. 403.58 per litre. The new fuel prices will come into effect from Saturday, May 23, 2026.
The latest reduction comes at a time when many households are struggling with rising living costs. The announcement is being seen as a positive step before Eid, as transportation and travel usually increase during the festive season.
This is the second consecutive decrease in fuel prices by the government. Last week, the authorities also reduced petrol and diesel prices by Rs. 5 per litre each. Following that adjustment, Petrol was available at Rs. 409.78 per litre, while diesel was priced at Rs. 409.58 per litre from May 16.
Officials say the back-to-back cuts are linked to changes in international and domestic energy markets. Global oil price fluctuations have affected fuel pricing in many countries, including Pakistan. The government believes the latest reduction may help lower transportation expenses for the public.
Petrol prices directly impact daily household budgets because fuel costs influence transport fares and delivery charges. Lower fuel prices can also reduce pressure on small businesses and commuters who rely on private vehicles for daily travel.
High-speed diesel also plays an important role in Pakistan’s economy. It is widely used in trucks, buses, agriculture, and industrial machinery. Any reduction in diesel prices can affect transportation costs and the prices of goods in markets.
Economic experts say the continued decline in fuel prices could provide temporary financial relief to consumers. However, they also warn that global energy markets remain unstable, and prices may continue to change in the coming weeks.
The latest announcement has received attention on social media, with many users welcoming the decision before Eid. Citizens are hopeful that the lower fuel rates will help manage travel and shopping expenses during the holiday period.
