NDMA Issues Heavy Rain Alert as Flood Risk Looms in Karachi and Other Cities

NDMA has issued a weather alert warning of heavy rainfall in Karachi and several other parts of Pakistan. Authorities have been advised to remain alert for possible urban flooding and weather-related disruptions.

According to the advisory, NDMA expects heavy rain in Karachi from the fourth day of Eid al Adha. Other cities in Sindh, including Hyderabad, Thatta, and Badin, are also likely to receive rainfall. Strong winds are expected in these areas on May 30 and May 31.

NDMA further stated that several parts of Punjab will also be affected by the weather system. Islamabad and Rawalpindi are expected to receive rainfall between May 28 and May 31. Officials warned that weather conditions may disrupt travel and daily routines. Citizens have been advised to plan movement carefully.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, rain and hailstorms are expected from May 26 to May 31. The advisory includes upper and mountainous regions such as Chitral, Dir, and Swat. Authorities have been asked to remain on high alert due to landslide risks. Road blockages may also increase in vulnerable areas.

NDMA highlighted that some disruptions have already been reported in affected regions. In Chitral, traffic was blocked after a landslide on Boni Road. Long queues of vehicles were seen on both sides of the blocked route. Passengers, including women and children, remained stranded for hours.

Local residents have expressed concern over delayed clearance efforts. They said authorities have not yet reopened the blocked road. This has further increased difficulties for travelers in the area.

The NDMA has instructed local administrations and rescue teams to remain prepared. Emergency response measures should be activated quickly if conditions worsen. The authority stressed the importance of timely action to reduce risks.
