South Air Begins Test Flights To Boost Domestic Connectivity in Pakistan

Newly launched airline South Air has started its early operations with a focus on improving domestic travel. The airline has officially begun test flights as part of its initial launch phase. These flights aim to evaluate operations and prepare for full-scale services.

According to sources, South Airโ€™s first test flights will operate from Karachi. The route includes stops in Gwadar and Quetta. These routes are part of the airlineโ€™s broader plan to improve regional connectivity across Pakistan.

The airline will use ATR aircraft for its domestic operations. These aircraft are suitable for short and regional routes. Officials say the choice supports efficiency and accessibility for smaller cities.

South Air previously obtained a TPRI licence from the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority. This approval allows the airline to focus on tourism and regional air travel. The company is now moving forward with its operational expansion.

Sources also confirmed that South Air has applied for an RPT airline licence. This approval is required for regular passenger transport operations. Once granted, it will allow the airline to expand scheduled services.

The planned network includes several key cities. These include Karachi, Quetta, Gwadar, Multan, Sukkur, Turbat, and Rahim Yar Khan. The airline aims to connect underserved regions with major urban centers.

Officials said the current test flights are an important step in ensuring safety and operational readiness. These early operations help evaluate flight performance, scheduling, and passenger handling systems.

South Air has described itself as a next-generation domestic carrier. Its goal is to make air travel more accessible and affordable. The airline focuses on connecting smaller cities that are often less served by major carriers.

Industry sources believe the introduction of test flights marks a positive development for Pakistanโ€™s aviation sector. It reflects growing interest in regional air connectivity and tourism support.

The airlineโ€™s long-term vision includes strengthening links between remote areas and economic hubs. With continued regulatory approvals, South Air is expected to expand its operations in the coming months.
