Govt Warns Public Over Dangerous “Tempered Chef” Malware Campaign

The Govt Warns organizations and individuals about a serious cybersecurity threat linked to a trojanized software attack. The alert comes through Pakistan’s National Computer Emergency Response Team (National CERT).

The Govt Warns that hackers are using a fake version of “App Suite PDF Editor” to spread malware. This malicious software is designed to steal sensitive data from infected systems.

According to National CERT, the malware is named “Tempered Chef.” It can secretly enter devices through compromised PDF editing software. Once installed, it connects to attacker-controlled servers.

The Govt Warns that the malware can collect login credentials, browser cookies, documents, and system information. This makes both personal and organizational data highly vulnerable.

Officials further stated that the malware is capable of disabling web browsers. It can also bypass security tools and install additional harmful programs. These may include spyware and ransomware.

The Govt Warns that infection is mainly spreading through phishing emails and fake advertisements. Pirated or cracked software downloads are also major sources of risk.

Users who install unverified PDF editing tools are at highest risk. Outdated Windows systems are especially vulnerable to this attack.

National CERT has issued Indicators of Compromise (IOCs) for detection. These include suspicious domains, IP addresses, and file paths linked to the malware.

The Govt Warns organizations to immediately block these indicators using firewalls and security systems. It also advises restricting execution from AppData and Temp folders.

Authorities recommend strengthening cybersecurity measures across all sectors. Multi-factor authentication and endpoint protection systems are strongly advised.

The advisory also suggests isolating infected devices quickly. Users should reset passwords that may have been exposed.

In addition, organizations are urged to review backup systems regularly. This helps reduce the impact of ransomware attacks if systems are compromised.

The Govt Warns that cyber threats are increasing globally and require constant monitoring. Both public and private institutions must remain alert to avoid financial and data losses.
