Fresh revelations have surfaced in the high-profile murder case of renowned qawwal Amjad Sabri, pointing to a wider network of organised militant activity in Karachi. Investigators believe the killing was part of a larger pattern of targeted violence.
According to investigation reports, an individual known as “Dildar Chacha” was allegedly the key mastermind behind a covert terrorist network. Authorities say the group was linked to multiple targeted killings across the city, including the killing of Amjad Sabri.
Officials revealed that a normal-looking electrical and plumbing shop in Liaquatabad was being used as an operational base. The location allegedly served as a hidden hub where weapons were repaired and modified for attacks. Inside, investigators reportedly found a concealed workshop used for firearm maintenance.
The report claims that pistols were cleaned, parts were stored, and ammunition components were prepared at the site. This covert setup was allegedly used to support several militant operations.
Investigators also described “Dildar Chacha” as a dangerous militant with expertise in explosives. He was reportedly linked to banned organisations and accused of involvement in major attacks, including the Karachi Airport assault.
In the case of Amjad Sabri, authorities say the attackers operated in a coordinated manner. On 22 June 2016, Sabri was travelling in Liaquatabad when gunmen on motorcycles opened fire on his vehicle.
Reports suggest the first weapon used in the attack malfunctioned. A second firearm was then used to carry out the fatal shooting of Amjad Sabri.
Investigators further noted that the attackers attempted to remove forensic evidence. They allegedly used special pouches on weapons to collect spent bullet casings during the attack.
Law enforcement agencies later arrested key suspects, including Asif Kapri and Ishaq Bobby. Officials said both individuals were involved in multiple terrorism and targeted killing cases across Karachi.
During interrogation, suspects reportedly admitted that Amjad Sabri was selected as a “soft target” due to ideological motives.
“Dildar Chacha” was later killed in a CTD encounter in 2017. Authorities also claimed to recover weapons and explosives from his hideouts.
Officials say the investigation helped dismantle the network responsible for Amjad Sabri’s killing. They added that targeted violence in the city declined after major arrests and operations were carried out.
