The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) is expected to consider a proposal that could lead to higher Electricity Prices for consumers across Pakistan. According to reports, the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has requested a fuel price adjustment of Rs1.72 per unit, which is scheduled for hearing before the regulator.
If the proposal receives approval, the increase will apply to consumers served by all electricity distribution companies, including K-Electric. As a result, millions of consumers could face higher monthly power bills in the coming weeks.
The proposed adjustment relates to fuel costs for the month of April. Fuel price adjustments are routinely reviewed by NEPRA and are used to reflect changes in the cost of power generation. Officials say the latest request could add further pressure on household and business expenses if implemented.
The possible rise in Electricity Prices comes at a time when global energy markets are witnessing renewed volatility. International oil prices have continued to climb amid uncertainty surrounding a potential agreement between the United States and Iran.
Market data shows that Brent crude increased to $94.29 per barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude reached $91.41 per barrel. UAE Murban crude also recorded gains, rising to $94.43 per barrel.
Energy experts believe higher international oil prices can influence fuel and power generation costs in countries that rely on imported energy resources. Pakistan remains sensitive to global oil market movements, making international price changes an important factor in domestic energy costs.
Analysts have warned that oil prices may remain unstable in the near future due to ongoing geopolitical tensions and uncertainty in global markets. Continued increases in crude oil prices could place additional pressure on Pakistan’s energy sector and increase overall costs.
The proposed fuel price adjustment is currently under review, and a final decision will be made after NEPRA completes its hearing process. Consumers and businesses are closely monitoring the outcome, as any increase would directly affect electricity bills nationwide.

If approved, the adjustment would mark another change in Electricity Prices and could contribute to higher living costs for households already dealing with inflationary pressures. The final decision by the regulator is expected to determine whether the proposed Rs1.72 per unit increase will be passed on to consumers.
