LAHORE โ The Punjab Food Authority has sealed a production unit of a well-known bakery in Lahore after discovering several food safety violations during an inspection. The action was part of an ongoing audit of major food brands operating across the province.
The inspection was conducted by enforcement teams of the Punjab Food Authority under the supervision of the Additional Director Lahore. During the operation, officials confiscated and destroyed a large quantity of food products and raw materials that were declared unsafe for consumption.
According to officials, more than 4,500 kilograms of khoya, 840 kilograms of cream, and 50 liters of expired chemicals were seized and destroyed. Authorities also disposed of over one maund of raw materials that failed to meet food safety standards.
During the inspection, teams reportedly found fungus-contaminated khoya stored at the facility. Officials also claimed that expiry dates on drums of desi ghee had been altered. In addition, inspectors observed the use of substandard ingredients in the preparation of bakery products.
Director General of the Punjab Food Authority, Syed Musa Raza, said the production unit showed multiple hygiene and sanitation concerns. Inspectors found stagnant dirty water accumulated on damaged floors inside the facility. The production area was also reported to have poor cleanliness standards and unhygienic conditions.
Authorities further revealed that a large number of cockroaches were found in the cheese cold storage section. Such conditions raised serious concerns about food handling practices and product safety.
The Punjab Food Authority emphasized that all food businesses, regardless of their size or reputation, must comply with food safety regulations. Businesses are required to obtain valid food licenses and ensure that food handlers undergo proper medical screening and training.
Officials said strict compliance with hygiene standards is necessary to protect public health and maintain consumer confidence in food products.
The authority added that food safety inspections and audits will continue across Punjab. These inspections aim to ensure that food manufacturers follow hygiene requirements, maintain product quality, and meet all mandatory safety procedures.
