Toyota Corolla Prices May Rise Under Proposed 6% Environmental Levy

Toyota Corolla Prices May Rise Under Proposed 6% Environmental Levy

Toyota Corolla buyers in Pakistan could soon face higher costs if a proposed Environmental Levy is approved in the federal budget for 2026-27. The government is considering a 6% tax on conventional fuel-powered vehicles as part of its broader environmental policy.

If implemented, Toyota Corolla prices could increase significantly across all variants. Estimates suggest the price hike may range from Rs243,000 to Rs302,000, depending on the model.

According to available projections, the Corolla Altis X Manual 1.6 could see its price rise from Rs6.202 million to Rs6.445 million. This would represent an increase of Rs243,000. The Corolla Altis 1.6 X CVT-i may also become more expensive, with its expected price reaching Rs7.069 million after a Rs267,000 increase.

The expected changes show that Toyota Corolla prices may continue moving upward if the levy is introduced. The Corolla Altis X CVT-i 1.8 is projected to increase by Rs276,000, bringing its estimated price to Rs7.305 million.

Meanwhile, the Corolla Altis 1.6 X CVT-i Special Edition could rise by Rs288,000. Its projected new price would be around Rs7.627 million. Higher-end variants are also expected to be affected by the proposed tax.

The Corolla Altis Grande X CVT-i 1.8 with Beige Interior may increase by Rs301,000, taking its price close to Rs8 million. The Black Interior version could become the most expensive model in the lineup. Its estimated price may reach Rs8.011 million after a Rs302,000 increase.

Industry observers say Toyota Corolla prices are among the most closely watched in Pakistan’s automobile market. Any increase could affect purchasing decisions for thousands of buyers.

The proposed Environmental Levy is part of the government’s effort to encourage cleaner transportation. Policymakers are exploring measures to promote electric vehicles and reduce dependence on conventional fuel-powered cars.

Alongside the levy, authorities are reviewing possible incentives for electric vehicles. These may include exemptions from Federal Excise Duty (FED), Capital Value Tax (CVT), and withholding tax.

Experts believe these proposals could reshape the local auto sector. While conventional vehicles may become more expensive, electric vehicles could become more affordable.

For now, the proposed levy remains under consideration. Final approval will depend on government decisions and consultations, including discussions linked to IMF-backed reforms. Until then, buyers will continue to monitor Toyota Corolla prices and budget developments closely.
