The federal government has proposed a major allocation for Green Subsidies in the budget for the upcoming fiscal year, setting aside Rs476 billion to support environmentally friendly initiatives across multiple sectors of the economy.
According to budget documents, the funding will be provided under the government’s Green Initiative project. The objective is to encourage cleaner technologies, reduce environmental pollution, and promote sustainable development throughout the country.
The largest share of the allocation has been reserved for the energy sector. Official documents show that Rs423 billion has been earmarked for Green Subsidies related to energy projects. The government aims to support cleaner energy solutions and improve environmental performance within the sector.
Apart from energy, several other sectors will also receive financial support under the proposed plan. The food sector is expected to receive Rs19 billion in subsidies aimed at encouraging environmentally responsible practices. Officials believe these measures can help reduce the environmental impact of food production and processing activities.
The agriculture sector has been allocated Rs21 billion under the green initiative. The funding is intended to support sustainable farming methods and reduce pollution associated with agricultural operations. Authorities hope the allocation will encourage farmers to adopt cleaner and more efficient practices.
The industrial sector is also included in the subsidy framework. According to the proposal, Rs8 billion has been allocated to support environmentally friendly industrial activities. The transport sector will receive Rs5 billion to encourage cleaner transportation solutions and reduce emissions.
Government officials say the Green Subsidies program is part of a broader strategy to improve environmental protection and address pollution challenges. The initiative reflects growing efforts to promote sustainable economic growth while reducing environmental damage.
Budget documents further reveal that all ministries will be required to take practical measures to reduce pollution within their respective areas of responsibility. This approach is intended to ensure that environmental goals are integrated into government planning and operations.
The Green Initiative project is expected to play a key role in supporting Pakistan’s environmental objectives over the coming years. By providing financial assistance to multiple sectors, the government hopes to encourage investment in cleaner technologies and sustainable practices.
