Teenagers in Punjab Can Now Legally Ride Motorcycles Under New Permit System

Punjab government has launched a new initiative that allows Teenagers between the ages of 16 and 18 to obtain juvenile driving permits for motorcycles. The move marks an important change in driving regulations for young riders across the province.

Under the new policy, the Punjab Traffic Police will begin issuing juvenile driving permits this week. The permits will enable eligible Teenagers to legally ride motorcycles and scooters under specific conditions set by the authorities.

According to traffic officials, including Deputy Inspector General of Traffic Waqas Nazir, the permit will only be valid for motorcycles and scooters with an engine capacity of up to 125cc. The initiative aims to bring young riders into the legal system while improving road safety standards.

The annual fee for the juvenile driving permit has been fixed at Rs500. Applicants must provide a Smart Card or B-Form during the application process. In addition, parental consent will be mandatory before a permit can be issued.

Authorities have introduced a proper testing procedure for applicants. Young candidates will first be required to pass a written sign test. After successfully completing the written examination, they must also clear a practical road test.

Officials stated that applicants who pass both tests will receive their permits on the spot. This process is designed to ensure that young riders understand traffic rules and can safely operate motorcycles on public roads.

Traffic police have advised Teenagers to visit their nearest licensing centers to apply for the permit. Authorities believe the initiative will help regulate underage motorcycle riders who are already using roads across Punjab.

The government has also emphasized strict compliance with road safety measures. Permit holders will be required to wear helmets at all times while riding. Motorcycles must also be equipped with functioning indicators and side-view mirrors.

Traffic officials warned that strict action will be taken against riders involved in dangerous driving practices. Violations such as one-way driving, reckless riding, and performing wheelies will not be tolerated.

Authorities further stated that repeated traffic violations or serious offenses could result in the cancellation of the juvenile driving permit. The policy is intended to promote responsible driving habits among young riders.

The initiative is expected to improve road safety by ensuring that young motorcyclists receive proper training before using public roads. Officials believe the system will reduce traffic accidents involving underage riders while encouraging compliance with traffic laws.
