The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has decided to establish six new MDCAT preparation centers to help students prepare for medical college entrance examinations.
According to available details, the initiative aims to expand access to free coaching and academic support for students planning to appear in the MDCAT examination. The new centers are expected to strengthen the existing preparation network and provide additional opportunities for aspiring medical students.
Last year, authorities established 54 MDCAT preparation centers across the province. Following the positive response from students and parents, officials have now decided to increase the number of centers.
The Directorate of Public Instruction (DPI) Colleges has already submitted a proposal to the Punjab Education Department for the establishment of the six additional centers. The proposal is currently awaiting the necessary approvals.
Officials said that approximately Rs100,000 will be spent on each center. The funding will be used to provide educational resources, coaching facilities, and support services for students preparing for the MDCAT test.
Students have been receiving free MDCAT coaching through this program for the past three years. Thousands of aspiring doctors have benefited from the initiative, which is designed to improve access to quality test preparation regardless of a student’s financial background.
Education officials believe the expansion will help even more students compete effectively in the highly competitive MDCAT examination. The test serves as a key requirement for admission to medical and dental colleges across Pakistan.
Sources indicate that the coaching program is likely to begin next week. However, the final schedule will be announced after receiving formal approval from the Higher Education Commission.
The decision has been welcomed by students and parents. Many believe the free MDCAT coaching program reduces the financial burden associated with private academies and gives students a fair opportunity to prepare for the exam.
Experts say the additional centers will help improve educational access in different regions and support students who may not have access to expensive preparation courses. The initiative is also expected to contribute to better performance in MDCAT examinations by providing structured guidance and academic support.
