The Punjab Mass Transit Authority (PMTA) has announced the suspension of the Metro Bus service in Multan and all associated feeder routes on Monday, June 22, 2026.
According to the authority, the decision has been taken due to arrangements for 6th Muharram-ul-Haram processions and related security measures. Officials confirmed that public transport operations under the Metro Bus network will remain completely closed throughout the day.
PMTA stated that no partial service will be available during the suspension period. As a result, passengers who regularly use the transport system have been advised to make alternative travel plans in advance.
The authority urged commuters to consider other transportation options to avoid delays and inconvenience. Officials said the temporary closure is part of efforts to facilitate Muharram processions and ensure public safety.
The Metro Bus system in Multan is one of the city’s major public transport services. It provides daily travel facilities to thousands of passengers across important educational, commercial, and residential areas.
The Multan Metrobus Service (MMBS) operates along an 18.5-kilometre corridor. The route begins at the Bahauddin Zakariya University (BZU) Terminal and ends at Kumharanwala Chowk Terminal. It connects key parts of the city and serves students, workers, and business travelers.
Authorities said the suspension is temporary and services are expected to resume after the completion of Muharram-related activities and security arrangements.
Muharram is observed across Pakistan with religious gatherings and processions held in memory of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions. Large numbers of people participate in these events every year, leading local administrations to implement special traffic and security plans.
Public transport schedules are often adjusted during Muharram to support crowd management and ensure the smooth conduct of religious activities. Security agencies and local authorities remain on high alert during this period to maintain law and order.
Residents of Multan have been requested to stay informed about traffic updates and transport advisories issued by relevant authorities. Officials also encouraged citizens to cooperate with law enforcement personnel and follow instructions issued during the observance of Muharram.
