A strong Earthquake was felt across Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and several districts of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Monday afternoon, causing panic among residents and prompting many people to leave buildings and move to open spaces.
According to initial reports, tremors were experienced in multiple cities and towns across the country. Residents in Islamabad and Rawalpindi reported noticeable shaking that lasted for several seconds. Similar reports were received from Attock, Chakwal, Faisalabad, and nearby areas in Punjab.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Earthquake was felt in Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, and surrounding localities. Many people rushed out of homes, offices, shopping centers, and workplaces after feeling the tremors.
Eyewitnesses said furniture, ceiling fixtures, and other household items shook during the seismic activity. The sudden movement created concern among residents, who feared possible aftershocks. As a precaution, many families gathered outside buildings until the shaking stopped.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) later confirmed details of the seismic event. According to the department, the Earthquake measured 5.4 on the Richter scale. Officials stated that the epicenter was located in the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan.
The Hindu Kush area is known for frequent seismic activity. Earthquakes originating from this region are often felt in Pakistan due to their depth and geographical reach. The PMD said the latest earthquake occurred at a depth of 215 kilometers beneath the Earth’s surface.
Experts noted that deep earthquakes can be felt across a larger area, even when the epicenter is located far from populated cities. This explains why tremors were reported from several regions simultaneously.
Despite the widespread shaking, there were no immediate reports of deaths, injuries, or major structural damage at the time of reporting. Authorities continued to assess the situation and monitor any further seismic developments.
Emergency officials advised residents to remain calm and follow safety guidelines in the event of aftershocks. Citizens were encouraged to stay informed through official channels and avoid spreading unverified information.

The latest earthquake serves as a reminder of Pakistan’s vulnerability to seismic activity due to its location near active tectonic fault lines. Authorities continue to monitor the situation while ensuring public safety across affected areas.
