5.1-Magnitude Earthquake Jolts Quetta and Parts of Balochistan

A moderate Earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale struck Quetta and several other parts of Balochistan on Friday, causing panic among residents. Many people rushed out of their homes and workplaces as the tremors were felt across different areas of the province.

According to the National Seismic Monitoring Centre (NSMC), the Earthquake occurred with its epicentre located around 60 kilometres from Kohlu. Officials said the quake originated at a depth of 17 kilometres below the surface, making it noticeable in nearby districts.

The tremors were felt in Quetta as well as several surrounding areas of Balochistan. Residents reported feeling the ground shake for a short period, prompting many to move to open spaces as a precaution.

Despite the strong tremors, there were no immediate reports of casualties or property damage. Authorities said emergency teams remained alert while officials assessed the situation across the affected regions.

The National Seismic Monitoring Centre confirmed the magnitude and location of the quake shortly after it occurred. Officials continue to monitor seismic activity and collect information from local authorities regarding any possible impact.

Pakistan lies in an active seismic zone where earthquakes occur from time to time due to the movement of tectonic plates beneath the region. Balochistan is among the provinces that have experienced several significant earthquakes over the years because of its geological location.

Natural disasters such as an Earthquake can strike without warning, making preparedness an important part of public safety. Experts advise people to remain calm during tremors, avoid damaged buildings, and follow emergency instructions issued by local authorities.

Emergency management officials urged residents not to panic and to rely only on verified information from government agencies. They also encouraged people to inspect their homes for any structural damage if they experienced strong shaking.

Local administration teams continued to monitor conditions throughout the day. Rescue and emergency services remained on standby in case any delayed reports of damage or injuries were received.

While Friday’s earthquake caused concern among residents, authorities said the situation remained under control. Assessments were continuing, and no major incidents had been reported at the time of the latest official update.
