The Sindh Solid Waste Management Board has announced strict action against waste disposal violations in Karachi. As part of the new policy, Massive Fines will be imposed on individuals and businesses found breaking waste management rules.
Officials said the fines will range from Rs. 50,000 to Rs. 500,000. The step aims to improve city cleanliness and reduce environmental pollution.
Managing Director Tariq Ali Nizamani said field assistant directors have now been given official authority as inspectors. This power comes under the Sindh Local Government Act.
With this authority, inspectors can directly take action against people involved in illegal dumping or improper waste disposal. Officials believe these Massive Fines will help strengthen enforcement across the city.
According to the board, Karachi produces more than 14,000 tonnes of municipal waste every day. This growing amount of waste has created serious challenges for city management.
Authorities said stronger penalties are necessary to stop illegal dumping and encourage proper disposal methods. The board expects Massive Fines to improve public discipline regarding waste.
The SSWMB is also planning another important measure. It will recommend linking trade license renewals with waste management training for businesses.
This training program will educate business owners about waste segregation, recycling, and environmentally safe disposal practices. Officials say this can improve long-term waste management.
In addition, the Sindh government has allocated 3,000 acres in Dhabeji for a modern landfill facility. The site will handle municipal, industrial, and medical waste using scientific methods.
Studies are also ongoing under the World Bank-backed Solid Waste Emergency & Efficiency Project (SWEEP). These studies aim to find long-term solutions for hazardous waste management.
The board has also proposed designated animal sacrifice points in every union committee before Eid ul Adha. This step is expected to improve hygiene and waste collection during the festival.
