NEPRA to Hear Petition for Electricity Tariff Increase Tomorrow

NEPRA to Hear Petition for Electricity Tariff Increase Tomorrow

National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) is set to hold a public hearing on a petition seeking an increase in the Electricity Tariff in Pakistan. The request has been submitted by the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA), which is seeking an increase of 89 paisa per unit.

According to the petition, the proposed increase is part of the monthly fuel cost adjustment mechanism. If approved by the regulator, the revised Electricity Tariff will be implemented from July 1, 2026, affecting electricity consumers across the country.

The Central Power Purchasing Agency submitted the application to NEPRA for review under the applicable regulatory process. The authority will examine the request during the scheduled hearing before making a final decision.

Officials said the hearing will provide an opportunity to review the reasons behind the proposed increase. After considering all relevant details, NEPRA will determine whether the requested adjustment should be approved, revised, or rejected.

If the proposal receives approval, electricity consumers will pay an additional 89 paisa per unit in their monthly electricity bills. The increase will apply from the beginning of the new billing period in July.

This is not the first adjustment made during the current year. Earlier, in April 2026, NEPRA approved an increase of Rs1.19 per unit under the fuel cost adjustment mechanism. That increase was later reflected in electricity bills issued during June 2026.

The latest petition comes as authorities continue reviewing electricity generation costs and adjustments in line with changing fuel prices and overall power sector expenses. Monthly fuel cost adjustments are a regular part of Pakistan’s electricity pricing system and are intended to reflect changes in generation costs.

Consumers have been closely monitoring electricity prices due to rising household expenses and higher utility bills. Any further increase in the Electricity Tariff could add to the financial burden on domestic, commercial, and industrial consumers.

NEPRA’s decision following the hearing will determine whether the proposed increase becomes effective from July. Until then, the existing tariff structure will remain unchanged.

The regulator is expected to announce its decision after completing the hearing process and reviewing the CPPA’s petition. Consumers are advised to stay updated on official announcements regarding the Electricity Tariff and any future adjustments that may affect their electricity bills.
