PTA Warns Users to Update Phone SIMs Linked to Expired CNICs

PTA Warns Users to Update Phone SIMs Linked to Expired CNICs

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued an important warning for mobile users across Pakistan. The authority said that Phone SIMs registered against expired, cancelled, or invalid CNICs could soon be suspended or blocked.

The warning is part of a public awareness campaign launched by the PTA. The regulator has advised all subscribers to renew their CNICs before they expire to avoid service interruptions.

According to the PTA, Phone SIMs linked to inactive or cancelled identity cards in the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) system may become invalid under current telecom rules.

Officials said only mobile connections registered with valid and active CNICs will remain operational. This means users who do not update their records may lose access to their mobile services.

The PTA has urged customers to immediately update their renewed CNIC information with their respective mobile network providers. This step is necessary to keep subscriber records accurate and up to date.

Authorities explained that many users fail to update their data after receiving a renewed CNIC. This can create problems during the verification process. As a result, Phone SIMs may become ineligible under regulatory requirements.

The telecom regulator stressed that keeping personal information updated is the responsibility of every subscriber. This process helps improve security and prevents misuse of mobile connections.

The PTA also said the move is part of broader efforts to ensure transparency and strengthen the telecom sector. Updated records make it easier to verify users and improve overall compliance.

Mobile users are advised to check the status of their CNICs and SIM registrations as soon as possible. Those with expired documents should complete the renewal process without delay.
