Karachi Port Sets Historic Cargo Record in 138-Year History

The Karachi Port Trust (KPT) handled a record 54.685 million tons of cargo during the year. This is the highest cargo volume in the history of Karachi Port.

Junaid Anwar Chaudhry announced the new record and said KPT had broken its previous cargo handling figure. He called it an important success for the countryโ€™s trade and shipping industry.

The minister said the government is working on major reforms to improve Pakistanโ€™s maritime sector. These efforts aim to turn the country into a strong regional trade and shipping hub.

He added that modernization and expansion of ports remain a top priority. The government is focusing on better logistics, stronger infrastructure, and attracting more investment in the sector.

The latest performance of Karachi Port shows clear progress in port operations. Officials believe this growth will support Pakistanโ€™s economy by improving trade activities and reducing transport delays.

The minister also praised Admiral Shahid Ahmed, along with KPT officers and staff, for their role in reaching this milestone. He said their efforts helped improve the portโ€™s overall performance.

Chairman Admiral Shahid Ahmed said Karachi Port has made major improvements in operational efficiency. He noted better cargo handling systems and stronger administrative performance.

He added that more steps are being taken to increase the portโ€™s competitiveness. These measures aim to strengthen its position as one of the leading maritime gateways in the region.
