The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued an important advisory for WhatsApp users across the country. The regulator has warned that accounts connected to inactive, blocked, deactivated, or unregistered SIM cards could soon become inaccessible if users do not update their information.
According to the latest guidance, PTA has urged users to make sure the mobile number linked to their WhatsApp account is associated with an active and properly registered SIM card. Officials said this step is necessary to avoid future disruptions and ensure uninterrupted access to the messaging platform.
The authority explained that a valid SIM card plays a vital role in maintaining a user’s digital identity. It is not only required for phone services but also serves as the key identifier for WhatsApp, including account verification, contacts, and chat history.
Users whose SIM cards have been deactivated or are no longer operational have been advised to transfer their WhatsApp account to a new active and verified SIM as soon as possible. Delaying the process could make it more difficult to regain access if the account is logged out.
PTA has also advised users facing SIM-related issues to visit the nearest mobile operator franchise or customer service centre. At these locations, customers can complete biometric verification and SIM validation procedures required to reactivate or register their mobile number.
Officials warned users not to wait until they are automatically logged out of the application. If the linked SIM card is inactive or unavailable, recovering access to the account could become more complicated.
The telecom regulator emphasized that mobile numbers have become much more than a communication tool. In today’s digital world, they are an essential part of online identity and are used to access banking services, government platforms, social media accounts, and messaging applications.
Keeping SIM registration up to date helps protect personal information and reduces the risk of losing access to important digital services. PTA advised users to regularly verify that their mobile number remains active and registered under their own identity.
The advisory comes as digital communication continues to play an important role in everyday life. Millions of Pakistanis rely on messaging platforms for personal conversations, business communication, education, and financial transactions.

PTA has encouraged all users to act promptly and ensure their SIM details are updated before any interruption occurs. By linking WhatsApp to an active and verified SIM card, users can protect their account, preserve their chat history, and continue using the service without unexpected disruptions.
