Iran Says No Talks Scheduled With US Despite Reports Washington Claims

Iran Says No Talks Scheduled With US Despite Reports Washington Claims

Iran has stated that talks scheduled with the United States in the coming days are not on its official agenda. The announcement comes after conflicting statements from Washington regarding a possible meeting in Doha.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said an Iranian technical delegation will travel to Qatar this week. However, he clarified that the visit is not connected to any negotiations with US officials.

Baghaei rejected reports suggesting that talks scheduled between Tehran and Washington had already been arranged. He stressed that no such negotiations have been confirmed by the Iranian government.

According to the spokesperson, Iran is currently focused on implementing parts of the recently signed memorandum of understanding. He said this remains the country’s immediate priority before moving toward any final agreement.

The statement came shortly after US President Donald Trump claimed that Iran had requested a meeting. Trump also said discussions would take place in Doha in the near future.

Following those remarks, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt announced that US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner would travel to Doha. She said they would participate in high-level discussions with Iranian representatives.

Leavitt added that the meetings would include technical-level discussions linked to the memorandum of understanding. She said the purpose was to continue dialogue on the implementation of the agreement.

Despite these comments, Iranian officials insisted there are no talks scheduled with the United States at this stage. Tehran maintained that any future negotiations would depend on progress in implementing existing commitments.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian also commented on the issue through a post on social media platform X. He said any future understanding between Iran and the United States must be based on mutual respect and reciprocity.

The president stated that Iran would honor its commitments if Washington also fulfilled its obligations under the memorandum of understanding. He emphasized that balanced implementation is essential for building trust.

Pezeshkian also addressed regional tensions during his statement. He said Iran would respond calmly to what he described as threats while remaining prepared to defend its national interests if necessary.

The differing statements from Tehran and Washington have created uncertainty over the next phase of diplomatic engagement. While the United States has spoken about possible meetings, Iran continues to deny that any talks scheduled with US officials have been finalized.

For now, both countries appear focused on the implementation of the existing agreement. Any future negotiations are expected to depend on progress made under the current memorandum.
