US Delays Iran Talks, Cancels Vance Visit to Pakistan

US President Donald Trump announced an extension of the ceasefire with Iran just hours before it was set to expire, citing the need for more time for diplomacy. He said the decision followed a request from Pakistani officials to allow space for negotiations.

The White House also confirmed that JD Vance will no longer travel to Pakistan for the expected second round of talks. The visit had been scheduled for Tuesday, with Vance leading a delegation for direct negotiations with Iranian representatives in Islamabad.

Officials said the cancellation reflects Washington’s stance that it is waiting for a “unified proposal” from Iran before proceeding. No new date has been announced, adding to uncertainty around the diplomatic process.

The planned Islamabad meeting was meant to follow an earlier round of discussions that ended without a breakthrough. Continued delays now suggest that progress in resolving tensions remains slow and uncertain.

Trump also blamed internal divisions within Iran’s leadership for the lack of progress, saying infighting has complicated efforts to reach a consensus. He noted that such challenges were not unexpected in the current situation.

Despite the ceasefire extension, the US continues to enforce a naval blockade on Iranian ports, maintaining pressure on Tehran. The pause in talks and cancellation of Vance’s visit signal a cautious US approach as it waits for Iran’s next move.
