The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested nine agents for allegedly making illegal deductions from payments distributed under the BISP. The action was taken during multiple operations carried out in Hyderabad as part of an ongoing effort to protect financial assistance meant for deserving families.
According to an FIA spokesperson, the operations were conducted at a BISP payment center located in Latifabad. Authorities launched the crackdown after receiving complaints that beneficiaries were not receiving their full financial assistance.
The investigation found that some women were allegedly forced to pay between Rs1,500 and Rs2,000 before receiving their relief payments. Officials said these deductions were made unlawfully, reducing the amount intended for eligible beneficiaries under the government support program.
Following the complaints, the FIA initiated an inquiry to verify the allegations. During the investigation, officials collected evidence that reportedly confirmed the illegal deductions. Based on these findings, law enforcement agencies carried out targeted operations against the suspected individuals.
During the raids, the FIA recovered more than Rs1.9 million in cash. Officials also seized six verification devices that were allegedly being used during the payment process. The recovered items have been taken into official custody as part of the ongoing investigation.
Authorities confirmed that criminal cases have been registered against the arrested agents. The accused are expected to face legal proceedings in accordance with the law. The investigation remains active, and officials have not ruled out further arrests if additional evidence emerges.
The BISP is one of Pakistan’s largest social welfare programs. It provides financial assistance to low-income families, particularly women, to help them meet their basic household needs. Officials stressed that every eligible beneficiary has the right to receive the full amount allocated under the program without any unauthorized deductions.
The FIA stated that protecting public welfare funds remains a priority. Officials said strict action will continue against anyone involved in exploiting vulnerable beneficiaries or misusing government assistance programs.
Authorities also encouraged beneficiaries to report any illegal deductions or suspicious activities at payment centers. They said public complaints play an important role in identifying irregularities and ensuring transparency in the distribution process.
The crackdown reflects the government’s broader efforts to improve accountability within welfare schemes. Officials believe stronger monitoring and timely investigations can help prevent financial misconduct and ensure relief funds reach deserving families without interference.
The FIA has assured the public that investigations into complaints related to BISP payments will continue wherever necessary. Law enforcement agencies are working to identify anyone involved in illegal practices that affect beneficiaries across the country.
