KARACHI: Noor Al Ain has approached the Sindh High Court over a First Information Report (FIR) registered against her.
The case relates to a violent dispute between two women in Defence Housing Authority (DHA).
Noor Al Ain and her brother filed a petition before the Sindh High Court. They requested the court to annul the FIR registered against them.
The FIR was lodged by Maryam Raza at Darakhshan Police Station in Clifton.
According to the petition, the FIR is false and unlawful. The petitioners have rejected the allegations made against them.
They told the court that they were attacked during the incident. They also alleged that influential individuals were behind the registration of the FIR.
Maryam Raza has been named as a respondent in the petition. The Station House Officer of Darakhshan Police Station is also included.
The investigation officer has also been named as a respondent. The Senior Superintendent of Police for Investigation is among the other respondents.
The Sindh government has also been made a party to the case.
The legal development comes as police investigate the dispute separately. An inquiry committee was formed under the supervision of DIG South.
The committee is examining the confrontation involving the women at a flat. The incident took place in Khayaban-e-Bukhari, Defence.
Police officials said both parties have been summoned by the committee. They will be asked to record their statements during the inquiry.
Police personnel visible in the CCTV footage will also be questioned. Their identities will first be confirmed by investigators.
Officials said most policemen seen in the footage are posted in Korangi district.
The inquiry committee has obtained CCTV footage from the affected family. Investigators have also requested details about earlier disputes.
Videos related to previous incidents have also been sought by the committee. Officials said these materials could assist the investigation.
The inquiry report will be prepared after both parties provide their statements. Karachi’s police chief has directed the committee to complete the report within three days.
Meanwhile, Advocate Sajjad Gul Khattari represents the affected family. He said the family has not decided whether to appear before the committee.
According to the lawyer, the family remains frightened after the incident. He said the family’s concerns have continued since the confrontation.
The police inquiry and court proceedings are taking place separately. The Sindh High Court will consider the petition challenging the FIR.
The case has drawn attention because of the allegations involving the two women. The CCTV footage is also expected to play an important role.
