TCL has expanded its smartphone lineup with the launch of the P80 Ultra, P80 Pro, and standard P80.
The TCL P80 Ultra is the most advanced model in the new series. It combines TCL’s NxtPaper technology with an AMOLED display for the first time.
The P80 Pro offers many of the same features but removes the periscope telephoto camera. Meanwhile, the standard P80 uses an AMOLED screen without NxtPaper technology.
TCL P80 Ultra Display and Design
The TCL P80 Ultra features a 6.83-inch NxtPaper AMOLED display with a 1.5K resolution.
The screen supports a 120Hz refresh rate and covers 100% of the DCI-P3 color range. Peak brightness reaches 3,200 nits. TCL uses circular polarization technology instead of the linear polarization commonly used on OLED displays.
According to TCL, this approach creates a more natural viewing experience. It can also improve viewing while wearing polarized glasses.
The display uses a special film to combine red, green, and blue sub-pixels into white light. TCL says blue light output falls to 2.9% without reducing image quality.
Nano Crystal Shield Glass protects the screen and provides anti-glare properties.
The phone has an aluminum frame and an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance. It has also passed MIL-STD-810H shock tests.
Buyers can choose between Sunlit Gold, Burgundy, and Midnight Blue finishes.
Performance, Storage and Software
The TCL P80 Ultra runs on the MediaTek Dimensity 7400 Elite chipset. It includes 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM and offers 256GB or 512GB of UFS 3.1 storage.
The P80 Pro uses the same processor and memory configuration. The standard P80 offers 128GB or 256GB storage options.
The phones run Android 16. TCL promises four operating system upgrades for the P80 Ultra. The P80 Pro and P80 will receive three OS upgrades.
All three models are eligible for seven years of security updates.
NxtPaper Slider Adds Reading Modes
NxtPaper models include a dedicated slider for quickly switching between different reading modes. One option is Max Ink mode, which reduces distractions while reading.
The feature blocks most notifications except calls and messages. It also puts background applications to sleep. TCL says Max Ink mode can provide up to seven days of battery life for reading.
Users also receive quick access to an e-reader application. More than 500 books are included on the device.
AI-enhanced Reading can turn standard e-books into audiobooks. It can also convert content into a podcast-style listening format.
TCL P80 Ultra Gets 50MP Periscope Camera
The P80 Ultra has three cameras on the back.
Its setup includes a 50MP main camera with optical image stabilization. A 50MP periscope telephoto camera provides 3x optical zoom and OIS.
An 8MP ultrawide camera completes the rear setup. The phone also features a 32MP front camera.
The P80 Pro removes the periscope camera. It instead offers a 50MP main camera and an 8MP ultrawide sensor.
Battery and Charging
The P80 Ultra packs a 5,800mAh battery with 45W wired charging.
The P80 Pro also has a 5,800mAh battery and supports 45W charging. The standard P80 comes with a smaller 5,000mAh battery while retaining 45W wired charging.
TCL P80 Series Price
The P80 Ultra starts at approximately $638 for the 8GB and 256GB configuration. Its 512GB version costs around $697.
The P80 Pro costs approximately $499 for 256GB storage. Its 512GB version is priced at around $580. The standard P80 starts at approximately $406 for the 128GB version. Its 256GB variant costs around $441.
TCL is launching all three P80 series smartphones immediately, according to the provided information.
