ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) has launched a new skills development programme for young engineers.
The programme is part of the Graduate Engineer Trainee (GET) Placement Programme. It is designed as a structured house-job initiative for engineering graduates.
The second cohort includes 1,400 graduates from the 2025 batch. The training will be conducted in two groups.
The first group of 700 trainee engineers will receive training from September 1 to 30, 2026. The second group will train from October 1 to 31, 2026.
PEC is conducting the programme with more than 60 industrial partners across Pakistan. The initiative provides graduates with practical experience and professional development.
Under the programme, trainees first complete five months of field training. They work with participating industrial organisations during this period.
The field training is followed by one month of skills development training. Each trainee will receive a monthly stipend of Rs50,000 throughout the programme.
The skills training will take place five days a week. Eight training centres have been selected for the programme.
These centres are located in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Lahore, Multan, Karachi, Hyderabad and Quetta.
The training curriculum covers several professional and workplace skills. It includes communication, emotional intelligence and executive presence.
Trainees will also learn stress management and business writing. Public speaking and conflict resolution are also part of the curriculum.
The programme further covers stakeholder management, critical thinking and time management. Innovation and engineering ethics are also included.
During the final week, trainees will attend a special certificate programme. The National Defence University (NDU) will organise the personality development course.
PEC Chairman Engr Waseem Nazir said the programme aims to connect academic learning with professional practice.
He said young engineers need practical exposure alongside technical education. The initiative will provide them with hands-on industrial experience.
Nazir said the engineering house-job model could improve graduates’ employability. It could also strengthen cooperation between industry and academia.
He added that the PEC wants to create meaningful career opportunities for young engineers.
The programme is also expected to help develop a skilled engineering workforce. The stipend will provide financial support during the training period.
According to PEC, the initiative will help graduates understand workplace requirements. It will also prepare them for changing demands across the engineering sector.
