Prime Minister has announced a major Petrol Scheme to provide relief from rising fuel costs. The program offers eligible consumers a discount of Rs100 per litre.
The relief primarily targets people using motorcycles, rickshaws and small cars. The announcement comes amid rising international oil prices linked to tensions in the Middle East.
Under the program, eligible citizens will receive subsidised petrol within fixed monthly limits.
Who Is Eligible for the Petrol Scheme?
The government has designed the program for owners of smaller vehicles. Motorcycle and other two-wheeler owners will be eligible for the subsidy.
Rickshaw, Qingqi and other three-wheeler owners will also qualify for the relief. The program also covers owners of cars with engine capacities of up to 800cc.
However, the government has introduced monthly limits for discounted petrol.
Owners of two-wheelers and three-wheelers can purchase up to 20 litres each month at the discounted rate.
Owners of cars with engines up to 800cc can receive the discount on 30 litres monthly.
How to Register for Petrol Relief
Registration for the Petrol Scheme will be completed through SMS. Applicants must use a SIM registered under their own name.
Eligible citizens need to send an SMS to 9771 to register their vehicle.
The registration message starts with “REG” and includes several personal and vehicle details.
Applicants must provide their 13-digit CNIC number without dashes. They must also enter their vehicle registration number without spaces.
The relevant province or territory code must also be included. Applicants will then provide the vehicle registration date in DDMMYYYY format.
A confirmation message will be sent after the submitted information is successfully verified.
How to Get the Rs100 Per Litre Discount
Registered users will need to obtain a fuel token before visiting a petrol station.
To receive the token, users must send “TOK” to 9771 through SMS.
A numeric code will then be issued to the registered consumer. This code will work as the fuel discount token.
Customers can present the code to the attendant at an eligible petrol station. The token will be verified before the discount is applied.
The Rs100 per litre relief will count toward each user’s monthly fuel allowance.
According to the announced schedule, the program starts in Islamabad on the night of September 14.
The government plans to extend it nationwide by September 16. The rollout will also cover Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.
