Punjab government has approved three major Health Projects in South Punjab aimed at expanding medical education and specialised healthcare facilities across the province.
The approved projects include the Maryam Nawaz Medical College and Teaching Hospital in Mianwali, the Kulsoom Nawaz Cancer Hospital in Dera Ghazi Khan, and the Nawaz Sharif Institute of Cardiology in Gujranwala.
The decisions were made during a meeting chaired by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif. Officials reviewed progress on ongoing healthcare initiatives and discussed plans to complete new projects within their timelines.
Under the approved plan, the Maryam Nawaz Medical College and Teaching Hospital will be established in Mianwali. The facility aims to improve medical education opportunities and provide better healthcare services for residents of the area.
The government has also approved the establishment of the Kulsoom Nawaz Cancer Hospital in Dera Ghazi Khan. The project is expected to expand cancer treatment facilities and provide specialised care to patients in South Punjab.
In Gujranwala, authorities approved the Nawaz Sharif Institute of Cardiology. The 268-bed facility will focus on cardiac treatment and specialised heart care services.
During the meeting, officials also discussed the proposed medical college project in Layyah. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz directed relevant departments to speed up work and complete the project at the earliest.
The meeting also included a briefing on the Nawaz Sharif Medical District. The planned medical district will include specialised institutes for infectious diseases, plastic surgery, genetics, surgery, and orthopaedics.
Officials said the medical district will also feature Children’s Hospital-II and an Institute of Ophthalmology. These facilities are planned to provide additional specialised treatment options for patients.
Other healthcare initiatives were also discussed during the meeting. These include the proposed Al-Shifa Eye Trust Hospital and a 100-bed General Hospital.
The government said these Health Projects are part of efforts to strengthen healthcare infrastructure and improve access to specialised medical services in different regions of Punjab.
The expansion of hospitals, medical colleges, and specialised institutes is expected to support healthcare delivery while creating more opportunities for medical training and patient care.
