ISLAMABAD: The government and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) have agreed to hold a meeting tomorrow. The meeting will discuss key political issues.
PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan confirmed the development. He said the government contacted him with an invitation.
According to Barrister Gohar, the invitation was sent a day earlier. The party accepted the offer after discussions during an opposition meeting.
The government and opposition delegations will meet at noon tomorrow. The meeting will take place at the office of National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq.
Both sides are expected to discuss important political matters. The meeting could also provide a platform for further political discussions.
The development comes as contacts between the government and PTI have resumed. Earlier, the two sides had remained apart over several political issues.
Barrister Gohar had also met Speaker Ayaz Sadiq recently. That meeting focused on the political situation and parliamentary matters.
The talks also come amid differences over the party’s protest plans. The PTI had postponed its September 27 long march.
Sources in Tehreek Tahafuz-e-Aain Pakistan claimed they were not consulted about the postponement. They also said they were not informed about the proposed route.
According to the sources, no coordination committee had been formed for the march. They also claimed that no administrative or finance committee was established.
The sources said Tehreek Tahafuz-e-Aain Pakistan had provided an agenda for the march. They claimed the postponement was announced without consultation.
The PTI had officially postponed its nationwide protest and long march until October 4. The decision followed discussions within its political leadership.
The sources further claimed that some PTI workers were unhappy with the postponement. They also said there had been no consultation over the October 4 march.
The reported differences add another issue to the political situation. However, the government and PTI are now scheduled to meet.
The upcoming meeting will be held at a significant time for both sides. Political tensions have continued alongside discussions about parliamentary and provincial matters.
Barrister Gohar has previously said political issues should be addressed through talks. He has also discussed the party’s concerns with government representatives and other political groups.
The government has separately discussed security concerns surrounding planned political activity. Officials have also commented on the law-and-order situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The meeting tomorrow will therefore provide an opportunity for both delegations to present their positions. Further details about the talks are expected after the meeting.
