Disney+ has announced a new animated series inspired by football superstar Lionel Messi. Titled Messi and the Giants, the show will bring a fictional version of the Argentine footballer into an adventurous animated world.
The series will follow a 12-year-old version of Messi who becomes trapped in a world controlled by giants. To find his way back home, he must face soccer battles and overcome several challenges. The story combines football with fantasy and adventure.
Unlike Messi’s real-life career, which includes numerous major trophies and individual awards, the animated series will focus on a young character navigating an unfamiliar world. His football skills will play an important role as he faces different obstacles throughout the story.
The upcoming show is scheduled to premiere in summer 2027. Viewers will be able to watch it on Disney+ and Disney Channel. The announcement adds a new entertainment project inspired by one of football’s most recognisable global figures.
The first teaser for Messi and the Giants was unveiled at San Diego Comic-Con Málaga in Spain. More than 3,000 people attended the event, where the project was introduced to audiences. The teaser offered an early look at the animated adventure centred on the football star.
The announcement brings Lionel Messi’s name into the world of animated entertainment. The series is designed around a younger version of the player rather than a direct account of his professional career. Its fantasy setting also allows the story to move beyond traditional football narratives.
Messi has built a global following through his performances for club and country. His career includes major domestic and international titles, making him one of the most recognised athletes worldwide. The new series will draw on that recognition while presenting an original fictional storyline.
In the show, football becomes a central element of the young character’s journey. The challenges he faces are expected to test his abilities as he searches for a way home. The combination of giant characters, sporting contests and adventure forms the basis of the series.
With its planned summer 2027 release, Messi and the Giants will introduce audiences to a fictional adventure featuring a young Lionel Messi. Disney+ and Disney Channel are set to bring the project to viewers when it premieres.
