In a recent operation targeting illegal currency exchanges in Dera Ismail Khan, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) apprehended five individuals and seized foreign and local currency from them.
According to Abdul Hai Khan Babar, the Deputy Director of FIA Dera, this crackdown was initiated under the orders of FIA’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa director, Nisar Ahmad Khan Tanoli, specifically targeting hawala-hundi operators. Acting on a tip-off, an FIA team conducted a raid at a gas agency on Diyal Road, where they confiscated 18,150 Saudi Riyals and Rs138,000 from two suspects, Abubakar and Abuzar. Both individuals were arrested, and FIRs were filed against them.
In a separate operation, FIA arrested Badshah Noor and Jehan Zeb, recovering Rs255,000 from their shop in Pir Gilani Market.

In a third raid at a jeweler’s shop, Akhtar Rahim was apprehended, and FIA seized Rs300,000, 110 Saudi Riyals, and 10 UAE Dirhams from the location, also registering an FIR against him.
In a separate development, pensioners from Gomal University in Dera Ismail Khan protested at GPO Chowk, expressing their grievances over the non-payment of pensions. The demonstrators, including figures like Pir Abbas Chughtai, Saleem Shahzad Miankhel, and former MPA Shaista Khan Baloch, displayed placards and banners outlining their demands. These pensioners revealed that they had not received their pensions for the past 14 months, causing financial hardship and forcing them to sell household items to make ends meet. They also accused the university of making political appointments, leading to financial instability. The protesters warned of further demonstrations outside the Governor’s House in Peshawar if their pension payments were not promptly addressed.
