Suicide Attack on Mosque in K-P's Hangu Leaves Five Dead

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Hangu district, a suicide bomber detonated inside a mosque, resulting in the deaths of at least five individuals, including a police officer, and injuring 12 others. This targeted attack occurred within the premises of the Doaba Police Lines and involved two suicide assailants, as reported by DPO Nisar Ahmed. The first attacker was neutralized at the police lines’ entrance while attempting to breach the security, while the second attacker managed to infiltrate the mosque before detonating explosives inside. During the incident, two police officers sustained injuries as they engaged the assailants in a firefight.

The prompt response of security personnel played a crucial role in preventing a more significant tragedy. Most worshippers had already left the mosque after a firefight broke out between the deployed policemen and the attackers. In the aftermath of the explosion, Rescue 1122 officials transported six seriously injured individuals to nearby hospitals. The impact of the blast was so severe that it caused the mosque’s roof to collapse, prompting authorities to request heavy machinery for rescue operations.

The explosion occurred during Friday prayers when a congregation had gathered inside the mosque, according to SHO Shabraz. It was estimated that around 30 to 40 worshippers were present during the attack. Following the incident, rescue teams and security personnel swiftly arrived at the scene, securing the area. Additional ambulances from Kohat, along with six Rescue 1122 ambulances, were dispatched to provide assistance.

In response to the situation, KP caretaker Chief Minister Azam Khan has called for a comprehensive report from provincial police. He has also directed authorities to oversee the ongoing rescue efforts and ensure the injured receive the best available medical care. Furthermore, Azam has declared a state of emergency in hospitals throughout Hangu.

Remarkably, this marks the second bomb attack in the country on the same day. An earlier incident in Balochistan’s Mastung district during an Eid Miladun Nabi procession resulted in at least 50 fatalities and around 100 injuries, adding to the day’s tragic events.
