During his 19-month tenure as the Chief Secretary of Gilgit-Baltistan, Mohiuddin Wani has left a remarkable legacy of transformative initiatives and services in the region. Under his leadership, significant progress was made in various key sectors, including education, health, IT, tourism, and environmental conservation.
One of his notable achievements was the introduction of the Meal-a-Day Program in government primary schools across Gilgit-Baltistan. This initiative ensured that children in 70 schools received daily meals, with students in Gilgit, Diamer, and Skardu benefitting from six days of nutritious food per week.
Wani also initiated crucial projects that improved the lives of the region’s residents. As part of the Meal-a-Day Program, nutritious meals were provided to students in more than 70 schools through collaboration with Allahwalay Trust. This resulted in a significant increase in school attendance, from 65 percent to an impressive 90 percent.

In addition to this, Wani launched the Tech-Fellow Program, which introduced STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), computer education, and entrepreneurship courses in 200 schools across Gilgit-Baltistan. These courses, developed based on guidance from top trainers, offer both theoretical knowledge and practical skills.
Another groundbreaking initiative was the Smart Schools Program, which transformed 34 schools in the region into state-of-the-art institutions equipped with IT technology. These schools were provided with digital interactive smart TVs, Learning Management Systems (LMS), and offsite and onsite servers loaded with quality content and curriculum-based demonstrations.
Furthermore, the primary and middle schools smartification project aims to convert an additional 200 schools into smart schools within the next four months, equipping them with high-tech LED smart screens, chrome books, backup solar power, and online and offline LMS. With support from the Federal Government, this initiative is set to revolutionize the education system in Gilgit-Baltistan.
The Department of Education Gilgit-Baltistan has also signed MoUs with the Special Communication Organisation and OGDCL to convert more schools into smart schools, further enhancing the region’s education infrastructure.
