Marwat states that Imran Khan intends to retract disputed tickets

Sher Afzal Khan Marwat, a member of the legal team representing imprisoned former Prime Minister Imran Khan, disclosed on Saturday that he had communicated the concerns of party workers regarding the contentious distribution of party tickets to the PTI founder. Through a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Marwat conveyed that Khan had made the decision to withdraw the controversial tickets for the upcoming General Election 2024, scheduled for February 8 across Pakistan.

The distribution of PTI tickets for both national and provincial assembly seats sparked dissatisfaction within the party, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). In KP, certain party leaders aspiring for the position of chief minister were denied tickets for provincial seats but were instead allocated tickets for National Assembly (NA) seats.

It has been reported that influential contenders for the chief minister’s position were strategically given NA seats, potentially paving the way for Ali Amin Gandapur as the likely chief minister of KP in the event of the party’s electoral success.

Leaders such as Asad Qasier, Atif Khan, Shah Farman, Shahram Tarakai, Junaid Khan, and Sheheryar Khan Afridi allegedly did not receive tickets for KP Assembly seats. Instead, the party instructed them to contest the election solely for NA seats. These leaders are protesting the lack of consultation on ticket allocation, expressing discontent with the process to PTI founder Imran Khan.

A day before, the former ruling party announced its candidates for all 266 National Assembly seats across Pakistan. However, some constituencies remained labeled as ‘pending,’ primarily due to disagreements over candidate nominations.
