PTI-linked candidate Rehan Zaib from NA-8 shot and killed

In a distressing incident, an independent candidate Rehan Zaib from NA-8, affiliated with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) was fatally shot in the Siddiqabad area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bajaur district, as reported by the police. This tragic event occurred just one day after a bomb blast at a PTI rally in Balochistan’s Sibi claimed four lives and left six others injured.

Rehan Zeb Khan, the PTI-backed independent candidate, was targeted by unidentified armed assailants while canvassing in the area. Despite being rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital, he succumbed to his injuries. The shooting also left four other individuals wounded.

Khar Police Station House Officer Rasheed Khan stated that the incident appeared to be a “targeted killing,” and law enforcement authorities were conducting a search operation in the area to apprehend the perpetrators.

Expressing condemnation, PTI emphasized that Rehan was a “party-backed candidate for a National Assembly seat.” The party decried the killing and raised concerns about the safety of PTI-affiliated candidates and public gatherings, pointing to the recent incidents as “terrorist attacks” that cast doubt on the fairness of the upcoming polls.
