Despite Sri Lanka’s late surge, reducing Bangladesh to 113-8, Mahmudullah steadied the innings, scoring 16 runs off 13 balls to seal the win. Towhid Hridoy was the top scorer for Bangladesh with 40 runs off 20 balls, including four sixes and a boundary. He was well-supported by a 36-run contribution.

Nuwan Thushara shone for Sri Lanka with figures of 4-18 in four overs.

Earlier in the week, Bangladesh won the toss and elected to bowl first. Sri Lanka managed to post 124-9 in their allotted 20 overs. They were 100-3 after 14 overs, appearing to set a competitive total. However, Bangladesh’s bowlers, led by Mustafizur Rahman and Rishad Hossain, triggered a collapse, restricting Sri Lanka to a modest score.

Pathum Nissanka top-scored for Sri Lanka with 47 runs off 28 balls, including seven fours and a six.

Mustafizur Rahman and Rishad Hossain, who claimed three wickets each, were instrumental for Bangladesh, with Hossain earning the Player of the Match award.

While Bangladesh will kickstart their campaign with this victory, Sri Lanka will aim to bounce back from their defeat against South Africa in the opening match.
