Tropical Storm Beryl is expected to intensify into a “dangerous major hurricane” by Monday, with high winds and heavy rain impacting the Caribbean, according to the National Hurricane Center on Saturday. The storm, which developed on Friday, is projected to reach the Windward Islands by late Sunday.
The NHC warned of potentially “destructive” effects, with water levels possibly rising five to seven feet above normal tides. A hurricane watch has been issued for Barbados, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and Grenada. Tropical storm watches are in effect for Martinique, Dominica, and Tobago.

On Saturday, the NHC stated that “destructive hurricane-force winds and a life-threatening storm surge” are expected in parts of the Windward Islands late Sunday night or Monday. Additionally, strong rains and flooding are anticipated in areas of the central and western Caribbean.
“Heavy rainfall and localized flooding are expected across the Windward Islands Sunday night and Monday,” the NHC said, forecasting rainfall of three to six inches.
As of Saturday afternoon, the storm was located about 785 miles east of Barbados, moving westward at 23 miles per hour, with maximum winds around 65 miles per hour.
