PTI Leaders Urge PPP and MQM to Clarify Democratic Stance

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has called for Article 6 of the Constitution to be invoked against those taking unconstitutional actions, despite the established Constitution. The party, led by jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan, urged the coalition government’s allies to clarify their position on plans to ban PTI.

During a press conference in Islamabad, PTI leaders condemned the federal government’s ban on Imran Khan’s party. Opposition leader Omar Ayub Khan stated that coalition allies, including the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), do not support this potential ban. He urged the PPP and MQM-P to clarify their positions, following the ANP’s stance.

Omar called on all democratic parties to declare their views on the government’s “unconstitutional” actions, questioning whether they support democracy or civil martial law.

The government announced plans to ban the PTI and pursue Article 6 proceedings against Imran Khan, former President Dr. Arif Alvi, and ex-National Assembly deputy speaker Qasim Suri, likely aiming to prevent PTI from becoming the largest party in the National Assembly. This announcement came after recent legal relief for the PTI regarding reserved seats and the party leader’s Iddat case. The impact of the proposed ban on the court’s decision regarding reserved seats and PTI-affiliated lawmakers is still uncertain.
