Asif accuses the IMF of meddling in domestic matters.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) recently made a remark, which Defence Minister Khawaja Asif on Thursday referred to as “meddling in the country’s internal affairs” and urged the global lender to consider the situation across the world as well.

The minister expressed his displeasure with Nathan Porter, the mission chief of the IMF, for saying earlier this week that the IMF hoped a peaceful solution was found that adhered to the Constitution and the rule of law in an interview with a private TV network.

Asif said, referring to the bloody riots that broke out in Pakistan after Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan was detained on May 9. “Obviously, he [Nathan Porter] was talking about Pakistan’s recent political developments,” Asif said.

Asif responded in the affirmative when asked if he thought Porter’s remarks interfered with the nation’s internal affairs. Yes, it is interfering in our domestic matters, he said, adding that on May 9, a “very serious law and order situation” arose.

“I believe that these institutions ought to consider the global context as well. similar to what is occurring in Gaza? Exactly what is going on in the West Bank? What’s going on in the Kashmir valley or in Srinagar?” he continued.

The minister defended the government’s response to the riots of May 9 by pointing out that a mutiny had broken out that day and that the state was in danger. “The government’s actions are consistent with the crisis that developed on May 9. “Asif criticised Imran for consistently making blunders both as prime minister and for the previous 13 months as the leader of an opposition party. “When your enemy is making a mistake, you don’t interrupt,” he continued.
