In an unexpected twist at this year’s book fair, the focus shifted from literature to the culinary delights on offer. Despite the event’s primary goal of promoting reading and culture, only 35 books were sold, while food vendors reported an astonishing 1,200 shawarmas and 800 biryanis devoured by attendees.
The fair, which traditionally highlights local authors and literary discussions, transformed into a vibrant culinary festival, showcasing the community’s undeniable love for food.

Visitors were drawn not only to the limited selection of books but also to the tantalizing aromas wafting through the venue, leading to long queues at food stalls.
Event organizers expressed mixed feelings about the turnout, acknowledging the importance of culinary experiences in drawing crowds but hoping for a stronger emphasis on literature in future fairs. “We wanted to foster a love for reading, but it’s clear that food holds a special place in the hearts of our community,” said one organizer.
As the book fair concluded, it was evident that while literature may have taken a backseat this time, the event served as a reminder of the rich culinary culture of Lahore, uniting people through their shared passion for food.
