Five Killed in Ambush on Army Vehicle in Indian-Occupied Jammu and Kashmir

Kashmir

In a recent ambush in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), fighters attacked an army vehicle, resulting in the deaths of five individuals, including three soldiers. This incident occurred just days after the killing of seven construction workers in the region.

The Indian army confirmed a brief exchange of fire with fighters late Thursday near Gulmarg, close to the heavily militarized line of control separating IIOJK from Pakistan. The Chinar Corps unit of the army honored two slain riflemen on social media, expressing condolences and solidarity with the families of the deceased.

A soldier who was injured in the ambush later succumbed to his wounds in a military hospital. According to a local government official, two civilian porters working with the army were also killed in the attack. Their bodies were subsequently returned to their families for last rites.

In a show of respect, IIOJK’s governor Manoj Sinha, along with senior army officers, laid floral wreaths on the coffins of the fallen soldiers at the military headquarters in Srinagar.

India maintains a significant military presence in the region, with approximately 500,000 soldiers deployed in IIOJK. Freedom fighter groups have long waged an insurgency, seeking either independence for Kashmir or its integration with Pakistan.
