Govt will begin 5-hour long load-shedding across Pakistan.

Because of US dollar shortages, the government has decided to decrease furnace oil imports for electricity generation, which will result in 3-5 hours of load-shedding during peak summer.

An Energy Ministry official informed a national newspaper that the country is presently facing an energy shortfall of roughly 4,000MW, which is why consumers are experiencing power interruptions for 2-3 hours.

The National Economic Council (NEC) meeting on Tuesday, presided over by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, resolved to close commercial markets at 8 p.m. to save electricity in the coming fiscal year. However, putting this into action would be tough because traders are expected to oppose the move.

The generation of electricity from Tarbela and Mangla’s main dams is based on water releases, which vary by province. According to the official, the national grid has been deprived of about 1,410MW of electricity due to ongoing development at Tarbela.

Similarly, the Neelum-Jehlum Hydropower Project is inactive, resulting in a 969MW shortfall. Furthermore, because to construction issues and variations in water flows among regions, the Tarbela dam generates little electricity.

Power plants are currently operating at 13-64 percent of their full capacity. According to an official from the Energy Ministry, the Independent Power Projects have an installed capacity of over 17,000MW but are currently generating only 7,700MW, indicating that they are functioning at 45 percent capacity due to the current financial shortage.
