Mufti Tariq Masood Faces Criticism for Remarks on Educating Daughters

Renowned religious scholar Mufti Tariq Masood recently stated that educating daughters brings no benefit to parents, as women eventually become the responsibility of their in-laws. He further justified this by claiming Islam allows underage marriages for the same reason.

In a widely circulated video on X, Masood argued that girls’ education holds minimal societal value. β€œParents are not obligated to educate their daughters,” he said, adding that any investment in their education would ultimately benefit their in-laws, not the parents.

He also defended child marriages, asserting that Islam permits them because the responsibility for women shifts to their in-laws.

These remarks have sparked widespread criticism on social media. Many users accused Masood of reinforcing gender biases that hinder women’s progress in education and careers.

One X user, Syeda Nayab Bukhari, condemned his views and called for the revocation of his Canadian citizenship, arguing that his ideas endanger the safety and well-being of young girls.
